Glimpses of the Near Future Part 2

I think the new movie based toyline with the most potential is the G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra because the toys seem to be identical in design to the current G.I. Joe line. So even if the movie sucks we'll be getting toys that complement what's already out there but with a darker, more realistic aesthetic.

The newest issue of Toyfare magazine contains the first official look at the G.I. Joe movie toys, with the Baroness adorning the cover. However this actually isn't the first chance fans have had to see some of the movie toys as some have otained leaked toys and posted pictures on the internet.

The excellent resource for G.I. Joe news, HissTank, has posted this box set of villainous troops. They're being called M.A.R.S. Troopers but they seem to me like a real world take on Destro's Iron Grenadiers. Nothing too exciting but they're not bad.

The best thing to come out of the live action movie might just be the toy vehicles and playsets. There will be products made available that the current toyline wouldn't be able to support without the increased interest level that will be caused by the movie. So far only this Rock Slide snowmobile has been revealed. I like it well enough. It's simple and sleek. Yet there are rumours of a lot more interesting items that will be coming out including a large playset of the J.O.E.'s headquarters, The Pit.
