When Shells Collide

Check out this promo 4Kids put out involving the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 25th Anniversary this year. Pay very close attention when they start talking about the World Premiere of a new special. See if you can recognize the Ninja Turtles as they appeared in the original animated series from the 80s and 90s. You can also see Bebop, Rocksteady and the Foot Soldiers marching out from the Technodrome.

It seems this new feature will have the Turtles from the modern series meeting up with their classic counterparts. You can see more at the Behind the Shells Blog, where there are some scrambled images and hidden mp3s to be found. More details will be revealed at Comic-Con. Nothing gets my geek-ness more excited than a good fictional multiverse crossover.

I haven't felt such geek-ness since having Ghostbusters nostalgia this week. I must watch that.

I feel sorry for all the new kids who are going to have to deal with the 80/90's cartooned American animation, because they are going to be like, what the fuck is this old shit?

Have you watched any cartoons in the last decade? Animation today is way shoddier than it was fifteen years ago. Computers made things easier so people stopped trying as hard. 4Kids' shows in particular look low budget.

Also how do you suppose this special is being made? Do you think they're editing clips of older animation into new? It's all the same level of modern animaton. It's just the character designs that will differ.
