Ryan Reynolds Is Green Lantern
So by now it's commonly known throughout the internets that Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordan for the Green Lantern movie coming in 2011. Prior to his casting he was rumoured to be in the running for the role along with Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper. Reynolds is easily the best actor of that trio (although I realize I am likely alone in my extreme distaste for Cooper) but I wouldn't say he's the ideal choice to play Hal Jordan overall. I do like Reynolds as an actor, even if not all of his films have been too appealing. Reynolds was one of the best parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in his brief turn as a pre-mutilated Deadpool. I don't know what his being cast in Green Lantern does to the proposed Deadpool spin-off but personally I'd still like to see him reprise that role. Reynolds has an on-screen persona of a smart aleck which is fine for a character like Deadpool, but it's not quite right for Hal Jordan. While I wouldn't call Hal Jordan a stoic character, he is a fearless adventure seeker after all, he does fit into the mold of an authority figure who believes in upholding law and order. It's an entirely different vibe from the caustic characters we're used to seeing Reynolds play. I don't want to typecast the guy. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt that he could pull off an enirely convincing Hal Jordan. It's still early but I am feeling positive about this movie. Plus the film is being directed by Martin Campbell. He's responsible for Goldeneye and Casino Royale, the two best James Bond movies that don't have the villain being inflated and exploding like a balloon.
